Yes you read that title correctly. As of June 1st 2025 single use disposable vapes will be illegal to sell over the counter. With numerous attempts from the house of parliament this ban is now official.

What are disposables?

Disposables are a form of pre-filled vape however once the e-liquid has finished you cannot re-fill. Therefore they are single use only.

When did Disposable vapes become ‘popular’?

Disposable vapes were on the market from around 2018 from brands such as Elf Bar and IVG and popularity grew by over 400% in a very short space of time which followed with many other companies jumping on the bandwagon and creating their own disposable ranges. They also became ‘popular’ for all the wrong reasons such as convenience, bright colours and likeable flavour names. Yes they are convenient and targeted at smokers for an alternative route to stop smoking, sadly they attracted the attention of youngsters.

Why are single use disposables banned?

There are many reasons to why single use disposables have been banned, here are a few:

• Dangerous to the environment - As these are single use devices, consumers are finding the need to constantly re-purchase. These are then thrown away and end up in landfill sites where there's a high possibility of the lithium-ion batteries exploding and causing fires. They should be recycled in the correct way as you would with the batteries you use for your tv remote ect. With that being said when disposables are recycled it is a lengthy process having to dismantle by hand. You can only imagine how long that must take. 
• Under age usage - Although there is a age restriction there are many stores that are overlooking the law and selling the nicotine disposables to under age people which is giving the vaping industry a negative connotation. Minister for the Public Health and Prevention states:

 "It’s deeply worrying that a quarter of 11-15-year-olds used a vape last year and we know disposables are the product of choice for the majority of kids vaping today. Banning disposable vapes will not only protect the environment, but importantly reduce the appeal of vapes to children and keep them out of the hands of vulnerable young people."

• Litter on streets - According to the GOV site there are 8 single use disposables littered every second! That’s outrageous! From now please ensure you do your part in being environmentally safe and recycle your used disposable vape. You can do this at any of our The Ace of Vapez stores.
• Long-term effects are unknown - Users that haven’t smoked previously and now use single-use disposables which contain the highest TPD nicotine option available (20mg)  are experiencing headaches and trouble concentrating. 
• Illegal disposables - These are disposable vapes that contain higher than 20mg nicotine. In England the law states the highest nicotine sold should be 20mg however in countries such as the USA they allow 50mg, which are being sold in the UK illegally.

What does this mean for the vaping industry?

Businesses such as ourselves have until June 1st 2025 to sell the remaining stock to prepare for the ban.
