If you’ve opened this blog, you’ve most likely not long bought a vape kit and just started vaping. This blog will guide you to the best method to change your vape coil. We’re here to help every customer with each step of their vaping experience. This blog and others will be useful to you in your vaping experience.
What is a vape coil?
First of all, a coil is the heating element that helps create the vapour when you vape. The interior of the coil is made up of metal wire and wick material which is most likely cotton. When you inhale from the mouthpiece of the device the battery is activated, which then heats the coil to create the vapour.
There are different types of coils, the two main types of coils are meshed coils and spiral coils. These two coils have a few differences which will alter your vaping experience:
- A meshed coil heats the e-liquid faster whereas a spiral coil heats the e-liquid unevenly and may burn the e-liquid faster
- Mesh coils offer a richer e-liquid taste
- Mesh coils are ideal for creating larger vapour clouds with a lower nicotine strength
- Spiral coils offer more customization when choosing the wattage

How to change the coil
Before you start the process it’s best to get some tissue roll ready just to catch any e-liquid that has or may leak. You will then need to remove the pod or tank from the battery device. With the pod, you will be able to see the coil at the bottom of the pod (where you would have inserted it) as for a tank you will need to remove the mouthpiece and pull the coil out. Place the coil on the tissue that can now be disposed of.
Remove the new coil from the packaging and you will need to prime the coil. Priming the coil is essential as you will burn the wick material if this step is missed. For this step, you will need to drip a few droplets of e-liquid into each hole around the coil. Place the new coil into the pod or tank and fill it with your e-liquid. Please ensure that you leave the pod/ tank for approximately 10 minutes before using it.
Once 10 minutes have passed you can now start vaping away!
**Please note most newer replacement pods have re-fitted pods therefore you would not need to replace the coil, you would need to replace the entire pod but you will still need to prime the coil as usual.
When should I change the coil?
This all depends on how much you vape. On average a coil would be recommended to be changed about every 2 weeks. However here are some signs to look out for:
- Burnt taste - As soon as you can taste a burning or harsh taste it’s definitely time to change the coil or replacement pod.
- When you want to change the flavour of e-liquid - Not in all cases but it is preferred. For example: the wick material is already soaked in your original flavour such as cola and if you were to change the flavour to banana, the flavours would then mix and it wouldn’t offer a fresh e-liquid taste as you would expect from the banana flavour.
- With time the wick material within the coil will eventually degrade and cause the e-liquid to leak from the coil. Most vape kits advertise that they are leak proof however it is inevitable

How do I know what coil is compatible with my vape?
Making your life easier we link the compatible coil or replacement pod within the vape kit description. Otherwise, you can check on the back of the vape kit box where it states what coils are included in the box.
